Gentle Yoga

Based in Hatha Yoga tradition, this class supports flexibility, stability, balance, and strength.  Asanas (poses) in seated, lying, and standing positions are included. Meditation and breathing exercises (pranayama) are part of this practice. This class is suitable for any adult who wants a gentle meditative practice and may be especially helpful for those new to yoga.  Class is 1 hour long.

Yoga for Healthy Bones

Aging and other factors can cause both men and women to lose bone mass which can lead to skeletal fractures and, in some cases, to disability. This class series aims to address bone health through a gentle yoga class that emphasizes balance, strength, and flexibility. The class is appropriate for any level student – regardless of age or yoga experience. Participants should be able to move without assistance between standing and sitting on a yoga mat on the floor. Participants with either osteoporosis or osteopenia should always talk to their healthcare provider when starting a form of exercise that is new to them.  Class is 1 hour long.

Yoga Happy Hour: Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga encourages deep rest and relaxation, using props such as blankets, bolsters and blocks to help attain and maintain positioning. Meditation and pranayama (yoga breathing) are incorporated. Class is 1 hour long.

Serenity Sundays (6-week series)

This gentle 6-week series offers a mindful practice that helps to manage feelings such as disruption, anxiety, frustration, and sadness that can result from daily life stressors or from disturbing local, national, or world events. The techniques of yoga, including asana, pranayama, and meditation help in re-establishing mind, body, and spiritual balance. Each class is 1.5 hours long and ends with a period of restorative rest.
